The majestic Aguada Fort is located in Goa’s northern abode Candolim. It was constructed by the Portuguese in 1612 under the guidance of the architect Juliao Sima. It was their strongest bastion against the Dutch and the Marathas. The fort derives its names from the Portuguese word ‘agua’ which, means ‘water’. The freshwater springs located within its premises replenished the water supplies of the ships during those days. The lighthouse and the Jail at the Aguada fort contribute to its history.

The fort is located 40 km away from the Goa International Airport. Panjim is 15 km away from Aguada. Margao lies at a distance of 47.8 km from here. Visitors can catch a bus, hire a taxi, or travel in their vehicles to reach their destination.

The ideal time to visit this attraction is from October to March. The pleasant atmosphere during this time will ensure a great sightseeing experience.

The fort has a glorious structure enthused from the Portuguese era. A spiral staircase leads to the top of the lighthouse. From this height, one can enjoy a hearty view of the entire Northern coastline. The gorgeous sunset unified with the waters of the Arabian sea is a heart-warming sight.
